Karachi administration has implemented a series of prioritized measures to ensure security and provide civic services across the city. Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has established supervisory committees in each district, headed by Deputy Commissioners. These committees include scholars, organizers, police, Rangers, and officials from various civic bodies. Commissioner Naqvi emphasized that the arrangements for Muharram are being carried out through coordinated efforts.
The committees consist of officials from the police, Rangers, Solid Waste Management Board, town administrations, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and Water Corporation, among others. Additionally, organizers of central processions and district-level gatherings are included. Naqvi instructed all Deputy Commissioners to work in close cooperation with procession organizers and address any needs for high-level assistance to ensure the effectiveness of the arrangements.
The Deputy Commissioners are holding daily consultations with scholars and organizers, supported by relevant institutions. On Friday and Saturday, Deputy Commissioners conducted meetings in their offices, reviewed the routes of processions, and visited Imam Bargahs where gatherings will take place. They have sent detailed reports of their tours and arrangements to the Commissioner, covering aspects like sanitation, installation of streetlights, resolution of sewage issues, and security measures.
Deputy Commissioner East, Shehzad Abbasi, visited Nishtar Park to review the arrangements. Deputy Commissioner South, Altaf Sario, inspected the route of the central procession.
Deputy Commissioner West, Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, toured locations in his district including Iraniyan Imam Bargah in Madina Colony, Mominabad, and Imam Bargah Sector 16. Deputy Commissioner Malir, Irfan Salam, visited the central Imam Bargah Jaffar Tayyar and Imamia Imam Bargah Jaffar Tayyar in Malir, consulted with organizers, and made decisions for improvements. Deputy Commissioner Keamari, Junaid Khan, reported that he, along with officials from relevant departments and permit holders, reviewed all necessary arrangements.
This included addressing sewage issues, water shortages, sanitation, cleaning of rain drains near Imam Bargahs, repairing sidewalks, and completing patchwork on roads swiftly.
