The Karachi University (KU) Registrar Professor DrSaleemShehzadhas issued a notification to conduct semester examinations online via Skype, Google Classrooms, Microsoft Teams or Whatsapp. The notification applies to affiliated colleges operating under the annual examination system. It is to be noted that the semester started in January and faced interruptions post-February 27 while online classes for the semester started in mid-June. According to the notification, four different modes of examinations have been mentioned including ‘during session assessment’ which includes a term paper, case study project, thematic essay, individual or group presentations, class tests or activity, a quiz, e-portfolio, open-book assignment and an individual or group oral examination. The second mode of examination is the final examination which includes open-book assessments, essays, final year project, reading and comprehension and a oral examination. The third mode of examination is practical or lab assessments. However, the practical part of the exam has been omitted and only the methodology part of the examination will be included. Videos will be shared with the students and the assessment will be done orally. The fourth mode is the supplementary examinations. The notification stated that the procedure of these examinations will be similar to the final examinations. The schedule of the examinations will be determined by the relevant course in-charge and the in-charage will also be responsible for the allocation of marks.
