Sindh government has announced plans to auction unused government vehicles within a month and initiate the procurement of electric vehicles (EVs) for government employees in Karachi. The decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet Sub-Committee on Austerity Measures, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The meeting, attended by Provincial Ministers Saeed Ghani, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, and Ali Hassan Zardari, along with departmental secretaries, focused on implementing cost-saving strategies, including the regulation and transparent allocation of government vehicles. Speaking after the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the urgency of completing the auction within a month to curb resource wastage.

He highlighted the economic benefits of transitioning to EVs, including reduced petroleum expenses, and stressed the importance of transparency in the process.

“The government is committed to ensuring accountability and efficient use of public resources,” he remarked, warning that unauthorized users of government vehicles must return them to avoid legal action. Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani underscored the significance of a timely auction to cut unnecessary expenses, urging departments to return surplus vehicles to the government pool.

Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar reiterated the need for swift identification of unused vehicles and adherence to policies to save public funds. Ali Hassan Zardari, Provincial Minister for Prisons and Works and Services, called for a transparent auction process, stating that funds generated would support the purchase of EVs for government employees.
