KE commemorates Intl day of persons with disabilities at KSBL

K-Electric (KE) hosted event at the Karachi School of Business and Leadership (KSBL) in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, by emphasizing its dedication to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The gathering, part of KE’s ‘Yaqeen-Enabling Abilities’ initiative, aligned with the global theme promoted by the United Nations: “Empowering Leadership Potential in Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Beyond the Ramp: Shaping the Workplace for Career Mobility of Persons with Disabilities.”

This session brought together distinguished leaders from various sectors, including education, government, corporate, and welfare, to discuss the critical issues surrounding workplace inclusion for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Moderated by KE’s Chief People Officer Muhammad Rizwan Dalia, the panel featured prominent voices such as Farman Ali Tanwri, Regional Director at the Department of Empowerment for PWDs; Ambreen Kanwal, Dr. Saima Akhtar, Head of Public Administration at the University of Karachi; Saira A. Khan and Richard Geary, Founder and Executive Director of the Family Education Services Foundation.

The discussion focused on overcoming barriers faced by PWDs in the workplace, the role of the education system in preparing individuals for careers, and the government’s efforts to promote inclusion. The panel also delved into the vital role of HR strategies, corporate responsibility, and cross-sector collaboration to enhance career mobility for persons with disabilities.Inspiring the audience further, Dr. Saqlain Shah, Deputy Director at the Department of Empowerment for PWDs, shared his personal story of navigating the corporate world as a person with a disability.

His empowering speech offered attendees valuable insights into the challenges and triumphs of professional life with a disability. The event also featured an interactive session led by a sign language interpreter, enabling attendees to gain fundamental sign language skills.
