Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has made an interesting proposal that if leaders of three major political parties — Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, and Asif Ali Zardari — could come together for honest discussions country’s deep-rooted crises could be resolved within days. Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, he called for formation of a reconciliation committee, urging that negotiations be held with sincerity and a willingness to acknowledge past mistakes. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif echoed these thoughts, emphasising that country’s various power centres — military, bureaucracy, politicians, judiciary and media — must come together to tackle the nation’s pressing issues.

These remarks come at a pivotal moment, as government and PTI are in the midst of negotiations, with second round of talks scheduled for January 2nd. Both Sanaullah’s and Asif’s statements are encouraging. A grand dialogue, involving political leaders and key institutions, could be a transformative step for the country. It would send a powerful message to the public, who want to see their leaders united for a national purpose. Such a dialogue could help rebuild nation’s confidence, providing a sense of optimism for the future. Moreover, a successful reconciliation process could strengthen our position on the global stage. Countries and foreign investors looking to engage with Pakistan would feel reassured by the stability that would come with a united political front. It would signal that Pakistan is ready to move forward as a reliable partner, keen on fostering economic relations. While the road ahead remains challenging, statements by Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Asif bring a much-needed sense of possibility. There is still time to turn things around, but it requires a collective effort. This is an opportunity to harness collective wisdom, setting aside past differences to chart a new course for future. With sincerity and collaboration, it is entirely possible to steer the country towards a more stable and prosperous tomorrow.
