In violation of the Punjab government’s orders and guidelines given by the World Health Organization as well as the Ministry of Health, University of Management & Technology (UMT) Lahore has asked its teaching and non-teaching staff to come to the university on Monday (today) and remain on duty during the office hours.
The students however have been exempted from attending the university until April 5, 2020.
These orders have been given at a time when the public sector universities have been directed by the provincial government to remain closed— in line with the federal government and the National Security Committee’s decision on novel coronavirus (COVID-19)—until April 5, 2020.
While talking to Pakistan Observer on Sunday, a number of disgruntled teachers said they were feeling insecure as coronavirus is spreading fast in the country and new cases are emerging from all over the province.
Visiting the university at this critical hour just for the sake of marking attendance may put us at a risk to exposure to coronavirus, said they.
“We have received emails and what’s app messages from the UMT human resources department and have been conveyed that “UMT will only be close for students till further notice,” said a faculty member of the UMT requesting not to be named.
