ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid gets relief from Islamabad High Court on Monday.
Rashid, 72, gets relief as he approached Islamabad High Court to stop his transfer to Sindh’s capital in cases registered against him in Karachi and Lasbela.
On Monday, Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri heard the petition filed by the firebrand politician, who remained in news for his vile statements against his rivals – as he regularly fired salvos at PDM ruling alliance members.
During today’s proceeding, the judge raised questions over multiple cases filed against politicians for a single offense. He also quoted similar incidents from previous governments when several politicians, the information secretary, and PTV M.D. were booked in several cases.
You started this practice and now the same thing is happening to you, Justice Jahangiri ruled.
During the hearing, Rashid’s counsel apprised the court that a third case was registered against his client in Murree, a hill station near the capital.
After the arguments, the court directed Karachi and Balochistan law enforcers to stop proceedings against Sheikh Rashid. Later, IHC adjourned the hearing until February 9.
Earlier this month, Rashid, a close ally of Imran Khan, was detained for accusing former president Asif Zardari to hatch a plot to assassinate Khan, the deposed prime minister who suffered injuries in an apparent attack last year.
