Mass mobilisation

THE ruling party has announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan would be addressing rallies to mobilize workers and voters across the country in preparation for local government elections in KP and Punjab.

According to Minister of State for Information, Farrukh Habib, the decision to launch mass-contact drive was taken in the [PTI’s] Central Executive Committee meeting presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Minister of State has denied the move has anything to do with the plans of the PDM and PPP to launch anti-government agitation and also embark upon the path of no-trust as part of their efforts to unseat the incumbent Government but its timing is important as the Opposition is not only strengthening inter-parties contacts but is also in touch with the masses.

Whatever the reasons, both the Opposition and the Government are fully entitled to mobilize public opinion in their favour and it also augurs well for the political system as such moves create greater awareness about governance issues.

No doubt, the Government has launched a number of mega initiatives aimed at bettering the lot of the people and the Prime Minister, who is known for his communication skills, would, obviously directly communicate with the people on such programmes and priorities.

The Prime Minister is, of course, the main crowd puller but the ruling party’s popularity has badly been affected by the unstoppable price-hike and shrinking economic opportunities for the people, especially the educated youth.

The Government will have to introduce some really meaningful programmes to address these challenges if it is genuinely interested to retain and promote its popularity with the masses.
