UNFORTUNATELY, the wind of political uncertainty is again gripping the country. Rumours are once again rife that Opposition energised by sky rocketing prices of essential commodities intends to bring no confidence motions against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking at a rally in Karachi on Saturday, alliance of opposition parties — the PDM — termed immediate and fair general elections as the only solution to crises being faced by the country.
Also on Saturday, PDM Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PML (N) top leader Nawaz Sharif talked by phone and reportedly discussed the possibility of bringing a no confidence motion against any of three key figures in existing PTI led set-up.
Undoubtedly it is the democratic right of the Opposition to agitate against government policies. Bringing a no confidence motion is also not contrary to Constitution.
However, treading this path will have serious consequences for the country especially on economic front. It is only in the presence of political stability that country can move forward on path of economic growth.
In fact, there is a need to do a realistic analysis of the whole situation. The question is whether removal of Imran Khan from the office will bring down international prices of both crude and palm oil.
Similarly, the IMF will not ease its terms for restoring loan facility with the departure of sitting government, rather financial lender will further tighten it.
Hence, in our view, opposition parties must reconsider their policy and pursue a prudent course, which is in the interest of the country.
The PTI is left with less than two years in power and it must be allowed to complete its mandated term.
The people of this country are the best judge and they will better decide party’s fate in the next general elections on the basis of their performance. For PTI government, it is important to check inflationary storm that is engulfing the country making life more difficult for the people.
People are now openly criticising the government for price-hike and these cries must not fall on deaf ears. The recently launched targeted subsidy programme alone will not be enough to bring ease in their life.
Instead of upping the political ante, the government must entirely focus as to how provide relief to the masses. Rupee fall against dollar will have to be controlled to check the inflation.
