ACTING Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi on Sunday said that the Taliban government does not want conflict in the country and it would not take the initiative to create one.
Addressing a ceremony of the Afghan Ministry of Commerce in Kabul, he reiterated that the new Government will not let anyone use the Afghan soil against any other country, adding that the Taliban Government would be ready to take steps ahead if another country even takes one step towards establishing friendly ties with Afghanistan.
Contrary to the apprehensions expressed by some countries and the propaganda campaign unleashed by some vested interests, the Taliban have, so far, taken every possible step to boost confidence of the local population and convey its good intentions to the outside world.
The pledge not to allow use of Afghan soil against any other country means Afghanistan will no more be so-called ‘epicentre’ of terrorism and at the same time the Taliban have assured their people that they would work for their wellbeing and welfare so that no one needs to leave the country.
Despite enormous difficulties and challenges, the Taliban are pursuing the path of peace and progress steadfastly and it is because of their policies and actions that there is now a visible change in thinking in some of the Western capitals about relations with the new administration in Kabul.
The United States has allowed humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan, a decision that has been hailed by the Taliban.
However, this is not enough and steps should be taken towards lifting of sanctions, release of frozen assets and formal recognition of the Taliban Government so that the country continues to tread the path of peace, security and development.
