The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has completed all arrangements for holding of EPI (Expanded Program on Immunization), starting across the province on Monday (today). An official of Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Polio Eradication KP told on Sunday that about 6.50 million children below five years of age would be vaccinated.
The campaign would continue till September 25 across the province including merged tribal districts. As many as 28,528 teams including 25,410 mobile, 1,091 transit, 1,864 fixed and 163 roaming teams were constituted to vaccinate all children under five years of age. The official said performance of these teams would be monitored at union councils, tehsils and districts level by the special monitoring committees and districts administration.
All resources has been provided to vaccinators and negligence in duties would not be tolerated, he said. He urged parents to fully cooperate with the vaccination teams and bring their kids to nearby hospitals in case vaccinators did not arrive to their homes due to some reasons.
Punjab Minister for Special Education Ch. Muhammad Ikhlaq said on Sunday the government was making sincere efforts for the eradication of polio from the country. He stated this after inaugurating a three-day anti-polio drive at Jaunpar Basti on Kashmir Road Paka Garha-Sialkot. Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Zeeshan Javed Lashari, CEO District Health Authority Dr Aslam Chaudhry, DHO Dr Afzal Bhalli were also present on the occasion.
He said that it was the prime obligation of every individual to play pivotal role in polio eradication. Briefing on the occasion, CEO District Health Authority Dr Aslam Chaudhry and DHO Dr. Afzal Bhalli said that 670,190 children under five yeas of age would be administered anti-polio vaccine in the district during the campaign. They said the health department had constituted 1320 special teams, out of which 1120 teams will go door-to-door in houses and schools, 132 fixed teams at primary and rural health centers, dispensaries and hospitals, while 68 transit and mobile teams will give anti-polio vaccine to children at different places in the district.
