5 policemen martyred, two dozen wounded in Bajaur blast

There was no letup in the terror activities against the security forces in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as at least five Cops were martyred and around two dozen others received critical wounds when an Improvised Explosives Device blasted a police van in Bajaur tribal district Monday morning.

The policemen were going to provide security to the polio vaccination team. The death toll is feared to go higher as many injured were stated to be in critical condition.
“At least five police officials were martyred and 24 others were wounded Monday in a bomb explosion targeting a police vehicle in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur tribal district,” police authorities said.

Reports said a police team came under IED explosion on route to provide security to the vaccinators, leaving their vehicle completely destroyed. The law enforcers and the rescue team rushed to the site of the blast and shifted the victims to the District headquarters hospital Khar where the medics pronounced at least five men in uniform dead. More than 20 cops as the hospital sources said were admitted for treatment. An emergency was declared in the hospital where appeal for blood donation was made by the hospital administration.
The hospital sources said a number of injured cops were in critical condition and the death toll may mount as the Police officials confirmed all the victims of the Monday deadly explosion were the Policemen. The security forces are reported to have sprung into action and launched hunt for those responsible for the cowardly attack.

A soldier of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom on Monday during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, the military said in a statement.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations, troops effectively engaged terrorists’ location and apprehended an injured terrorist. It said that a resident of district Mardan 41-year-old Havildar Muhammad Zahir, having fought gallantly, embraced martyrdom, during the intense exchange of fire with the terrorists. ISPR said that the sanitisation operation is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.
