200 KV MHP completed in upper Chitral

A hydroelectric power plant was inaugurated at Upper Chitral District at the out skirt of Shandor pass in the remote area of Sur Laspur Valley.

The completion of this 200 KV Micro hydropower plant brought a wave of happiness among the people of the area as for the first time the government provided electricity to the people in this backward valley.

The power plant was completed with the financial support of the Provincial Department of Pakhtoonkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) which is constructing 54 suchmicro hydropower plants in Chitral.

The contract for these power plants was awarded to AKRSP. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on minority affairs Wazir Zada Kalash cut the ribbon and inaugurated the power plant.

He said that the provincial government’s Ujalon kaSafar program is underway and under this program, in the second phase PEDO also, several hydropower plants are being constructed in Chitral dimension which will definitely bring the people living in these areas out of darkness will bring them to light.

A function was also held on the occasion in which Wazirzada was the Chief guest. The function was attended by the people of the entire township.

The people of the area thanked the provincial government as well as the Aga Khan Rural Support Program for their efforts for completion of this power house to lift them out of the darkness.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the water drain of this power plant was 50% damaged lastyear but AKRSP rebuilt it at again with 3.6 million. As the power house was constructed with a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh per KV.

Now that the area has been electrified after 74 years, it will also make it easier for their children to get education.
Elderly artists from Sur-Laspor Valley also performed in a traditional cultural show by playing the tambourine and folk dance.

A large number of people attended the event and expressed happiness on thesupplying of electricity in this neglected and backward area.
