Peshawar
With the Covid-19 positive cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa crossing the 10,000 figure and death toll rising to over 450 yet two more doctors succumbed to the deadly coronavirus in Peshawar after battling for thier lives. Their deaths have raised country’s death toll of the medics who died of the infection to 19, whereas, KP with over 450 casualties continues to record highest number of deaths among all the provinces.
Dr. Shehzad Akbar, Director Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, while confirming the sad demise of Dr. Aurangzeb, one of the frontline warriors against Covid-19, said he was on ventilator for the last four days. Dr. Aurangzeb, a senior pathologist at Police Services Hospital, was also diabetic.
It may be mentioned here that Police Services Hospital is a major institution that is dealing with the cases suspected of deadly Virus and has been conducting the Covid-19 tests.
A senior doctor of the Police Services Hospital told Pakistan Observer, the Police Services Hospital, suspending all its activities, is only looking after the Covid-19 cases and till date have conducted over 7,500 tests.
“Besides we have all the positive cases in our compound and refer the serious patients or those needing ventilators to the major hospitals like Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital or Hayatabad Medical Complex,” he said adding despite dearth of Personal Protective equipment in major hospitals, the Police Hospital anticipated the situation at the start of February and purchased the PPEs well in advance purely from its own resources.
It is worth mentioning that while the private labs and hospitals, exploiting the situation, are charging between Rs 4000 to 8000 per test, the Police Services Hospital has been providing the services free of charge to anybody who is desirous of getting himself tested after developing symptoms or those referred by the major hospitals.
