16 Afghan Taliban members killed in fierce border clash with Pakistan Army

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army responded promptly to an unprovoked attack by Afghan Taliban at the Pak-Afghan border. Taliban started the strike by firing heavy weapons from the Palosin area and targeting Pakistani checkpoints.

The fighting continued until September 9, with Pakistani forces delivering a strong counterattack. This clash resulted in sixteen Taliban members being killed, 27 others wounded.

Details shared by security forces said the attack started on the morning of September 7, and Afghan Taliban bombarded Pakistani checkposts and Pak Army conducted strong counterattacks, resulting in significant Taliban losses.

Besides human losses, two of the tanks of Afghan Taliban were also destroyed during skirmishes. Islamabad warned that any unprovoked aggression at the border will be met with a decisive counter-response.

This is not the first time Afghan forces have targeted Pakistani security personnel at the border. Sharif led government raised its concerns with Kabul following these incidents and has called on the Taliban rulers to control militant activities and halt support for terrorist groups using Afghan territory to launch attacks on Pakistan.

Tensions between two sides are multifaceted, rooted in several complexities. Pakistan continues to accuse each other of supporting militant groups, with Afghanistan blaming Pakistan for harboring the Taliban, while Pakistan points to militant activity originating from Afghan territory.

The political instability in Afghanistan, including the fluctuating control of the Taliban, further strains relations. Also, the long-term presence of Afghan refugees in Pakistan led to social and economic pressures that contribute to friction.
