Six persons including a woman died and 13 others sustained multiple injuries in two road accidents occurred in Gujranwala and Okara.
According to Rescue 1122 and police officials, four persons were killed and eight others suffered injuries in a horrific accident between a truck and van.
The rescuers informed that the accident occurred near Sabzi Mandi in Gujranwala where a truck collided with passenger van on Sunday. Resultantly, four passengers of the van died on the spot and eight others injured.
The rescuers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to a hospital where four of them are stated to be in critical condition.
The rescuers informed that the accident occurred due to speeding and reckless driving by the truck driver who fled the scene after the accident. The police have registered a case against the runaway driver and impounded the vehicle.
Further investigation is underway.
In another accident that occurred in Okara, a man and his wife died and five others sustained multiple injuries when a speeding passenger bus overturned after hitting a motorcycle on Sunday.
According to rescue and police sources, the accident took place on GT Road near Kissan Adda in Okara where a passenger bus knocked down a motorcycle, carrying a couple and overturned.
Resultantly, the couple breathed their last instantly due to fatal wounds while five passengers of the bus also sustained injuries.
On Information, the rescuers rushed to the scene and shifted the dead bodies and injured persons to hospital where condition of the injured is stated to be stable.
The rescuers informed that the accident occurred due to speeding by the bus driver who fled the scene after the accident.
The police have registered a case against bus driver and started further investigation.
Road accidents are the major cause of deaths in Pakistan and mostly fatal accidents occurred due to reckless driving and speeding.
Poor implementation of the road laws is adding to this dilemma and the situation warrant, the government, especially the traffic police should take sweeping measures to minimise the road accident to save precious lives.
