Youm-e-Takbir: Public holiday announced in Pakistan on May 28

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced public holiday in all private and public offices and educational institutions on May 28 as the nation marks Youm-e-Takbeer.

According to the notification, all the public and private institutions including schools will remain closed on May  28 Tuesday.

The notification titled “Deceleration of Public Holiday on the Occasion of Youm-e-Takkeer” said “In modification of Cabinet Division’s circular No. 10-02/2023-Min.II dated 20. December. 2023 regarding public and optional holidays for the year 2024,  Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 28.’ May 2024 throughout the country.”

Pakistan conducted nuclear tests on May 28, 1998, and the Asian nation marked the day as Youm-i-Takbeer to celebrate achievement of the invincible defense capabilities of the country and ensure regional stability through power equilibrium.

The nuclear tests made Pakistan the seventh nuclear nation in the world and the first Muslim state, having the nuclear arsenal in its defense stockpile.

Despite external pressures, then PM Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s courageous decision to conduct the tests ensured a strategic balance in the region.
