ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari took oath as Pakistan’s 14th president, sparking curiosity about who would assume the role of the first lady.

The absence of a first lady is visible as President Zardari, widowed since the tragic passing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007, did not remarry during his previous tenure from 2008 to 2013.

On the day of oath, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari accompanied her Father President Asif Ali Zardari. Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari also highlighted her company in a tweet.

The tweet made a more strong impression about the role of the first lady as there are many instances when widowed presidents enlisted family members as first ladies.

Andrew Jackson’s niece, Emily Donelson, served in the United States.

Aseefa, who started her career around four years ago, is now 31, and she actively participated in the party’s recent electoral campaign and is positioned differently from her teenage years during her father’s initial presidency.
