WaterAid Pakistan hosted a Media Engagement Session in Karachi, emphasizing the urgent need for climate-resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) systems. The session brought together key media representatives from print, digital, and television platforms to engage them in discussions on the crucial links between climate change and WASH services, encouraging greater media involvement in addressing these pressing challenges. Dr. Shakeel Hayat, Climate Change Specialist at WaterAid Pakistan, led the session, highlighting the importance of building WASH systems that can withstand the adverse impacts of climate change, particularly for vulnerable communities. His presentation illustrated the complex relationship between climate change, water security, and public health, while offering practical solutions to help mitigate these issues.
The session concluded with remarks by Muhammad Khaliq, Provincial Manager for Sindh and Balochistan at WaterAid, who emphasized, “Building climate-resilient WASH systems is not just about infrastructure; it’s about empowering communities to adapt to the realities of a changing climate. Collaboration between the media, policymakers, and development partners is essential to drive this change and ensure sustainable solutions for those who need them most.”
