Agricultural growth

Agricultural growth is a critical component of economic development and poverty reduction. According to the World Bank, growth in the agriculture sector is two to four times more effective in raising incomes among the poorest compared to other sectors. In fact, agricultural development is one of the most powerful tools to end extreme poverty, boost shared prosperity and feed a projected 10 billion people by 2050. However, the agriculture-driven growth, poverty reduction and food security are at risk due to multiple shocks such as COVID-19 related disruptions, extreme weather, pests and conflicts.

To address these challenges, it is important to invest in sustainable and inclusive food systems. The World Bank suggests that healthy, sustainable and inclusive food systems are critical to achieving the world’s development goals. This includes investing in renewable energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and making changes to daily habits to reduce impact on the environment. Addressing food loss and waste is also critical to improving food and nutrition security, as well as helping to meet climate goals and reduce stress on the environment.

Nano poultry boost

Malnutrition, inadequate nutrition and health issues in Pakistan are multisectoral and complex. They arise from micronutrients, protein and energy deficiencies. Proteins and other components are required as building blocks for most animal tissues and organs. As a result, proteins in animal nutrition are required for tissue development and repair. A significant trend that has gained attraction in recent years is the use of feed additives and premixes to improve the nutritional value of animal feed. Premixes are concentrated blends of nutrients that can be added to animal feed to provide a more balanced diet for animals. Feed additives, such as enzymes and probiotics, can also be used to enhance the nutritional value of feed and improve the digestive health of animals.

Poultry nutritionists focus mainly on the health and performance of broilers. Therefore, poultry diets are specifically designed to achieve these desirable characteristics. It is well established that dietary requirements of trace minerals are negligible; however, it is important to note that these negligible elements are important for broiler enzyme systems, metabolism, growth and reproduction. Therefore, an accurate understanding of the nutritional requirements of modern broiler chickens along with a rational utilization of feed additives can improve overall productive efficiency while addressing important environmental concerns.

Considering the advantages of nanotechnology, research was conducted to explore its application in poultry nutrition. Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and a comprehensive study was conducted to assess their potential effects on broilers. The findings were promising, especially concerning the growth of broilers and the quality of meat produced. Consequently, integrating iron oxide nanoparticles into the broiler diet could significantly enhance production performance and contribute to better-quality meat.

Vote for change

Pakistani people have faced ongoing challenges—economic hardships, political unrest—since gaining independence. Several factors contribute to this, but among the most significant is leadership and governance. We’ve experienced various leaders and their policies, some supportive and others burdensome. With the election date announced by the ECP, every party leader is striving to present him as the most favoured. However, the promise of better days lies in your hands.

No citizen is oblivious to each political party’s track record and its impact. Almost every corner of Pakistan has felt the effects of past incidents like climate change, COVID-19, inflation, unemployment and corruption, understanding the role of the government in these situations. Now, it’s time for change. It’s imperative to judiciously choose your leader using your voting power. Every eligible citizen holds the right to vote and is capable of analyzing and selecting a candidate from the available choices.

Consider the ethical, social, economic and political behaviour of each party. Evaluate whether they prioritize their own interests over the nation’s. Opt for a well-educated leader with experience and democratic skills to govern effectively.

Pakistan, as a developing nation, often faces crises; therefore, select a leader adept in decision-making and possessing strong management skills. Lastly, choose a leader with a clear vision and goals for betterment of citizens and country, someone who genuinely cares about community’s concerns and needs.

Ocean pollution

Ocean pollution, a dire consequence of human actions, imperils marine ecosystems and biodiversity worldwide. Incessant disposal of plastic waste, industrial runoff and oil spills devastate the oceans, suffocating and strangling marine life. This rampant contamination not only disrupts delicate ecosystems but also seeps into the food chain, endangering human health. The scale of this crisis demands immediate global attention and collaborative efforts. Mitigating this catastrophe necessitates widespread behavioural shifts, embracing sustainable practices, reducing plastic usage, implementing stringent waste management policies and holding industries accountable for their environmental impact. Preserving the oceans is not merely an ecological imperative; it’s essential for the survival of life on our planet.
