INAUGURATING a Model College for girls in his constitu
ency in Islamabad, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar unveiled a plan aiming at civic and administrative uplift of the capital.
Undoubtedly, Islamabad is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world which is also known as one of the well planned cities. However, its development and basic requirements of the residents have long been neglected. During the electioneering, Asad Umer who has been elected from the capital, had promised to address the problems faced by Islamabadites on a priority basis. Since he is now Minister for Planning, one has great expectations from him that he will use all his energies and will be more forthcoming in approval of projects aimed at the much needed uplift of the city. Currently, the city is faced with a host of civic issues with water shortage and transport woes of the people are rising with each passing day. It was during the era of Kamran Lashari as the Chairman CDA that the capital had seen massive and rapid construction of roads and underpasses which indeed improved the city’s overall landscape. However, currently, the capital’s road infrastructure is in dilapidated condition with expansion of Islamabad Expressway project initiated by previous government is facing long delays. We, therefore, expect that the Minister for Planning will approve the funds required for the fast track completion of this project as well as reconstruction of other roads including I J Principal Road. Apart from this, there is dire need to immediately execute a state-o- the-art mass transit transport system to address the commutation woes of the residents. A Chinese company, a few years back, had offered construction of rail transit in Islamabad. This offer or any other ensuring integrated transport system should be given a serious consideration to ensure easy and fast movement of commuters. The fact of the matter is that our capital from the urban areas to the rural ones needs a complete makeover. Execution of these mega projects will add to the beauty of Islamabad, which will also send a positive message both to the tourists and investors to visit Pakistan and invest here.
