University official killed in ‘car snatching’ bid

Syed Zahir Ali Shah, the director of Usman Institute of Technology, was killed by unidentified men near Khatoon-e-Pakistan College on Friday, the police confirmed on Friday.

Sonia Shehzad,  Usman Institute of Technology’s spokesperson, said that Shah was going back to his home from the university when the robbers tried to stop him near Aga Khan University Hospital.

The professor received bullet in his shoulder and he was moved to Agha Khan University Hospital (AKUH) where he succumbed to his bullet wounds.

“According to initial reports, the armed bike riders shot him for resisting a car snatching attempt,” East Zone Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Saqib Ismail Memon told media.

He added that a police team immediately reached the site and is collecting evidence.“We are also gathering CCTV footage of the crime scene to identify the suspects involved in this murder,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Saqib Ismail .
