In the past two days, several provinces of the country have witnessed snowfall, rainfall, and subsequent flooding, which have caused damage to crops and fruit trees.
The snowfall was particularly severe in the provinces of Badakhshan, Panjshir, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Paktia, and Bamyan.
Many citizens consider this season’s snowfall to be rare and have said that the snow and resulting floods have damaged their crops and fruit trees.
Nader, a resident of Bamiyan, told TOLOnews: “The farming season has been disrupted. Those who planted potatoes might see them destroyed by the cold.”
Nasrullah Malikzada, head of Information and Culture of Panjshir, regarding the recent snowfall, said: “In three districts, Abshar, Parian, and Dara districts, there have been heavy snowfalls that have damaged people’s crops during the planting season.”
Meanwhile, local officials in Nangarhar have stated that recent floods have destroyed 800 homes and 1,600 acres of agricultural land in the province.
According to officials, the collapse of residential house roofs in the center and districts of Nangarhar resulted in four deaths and six injuries.
Saifullah Khalid, head of Disaster Management Department in Nangarhar, said: “In the past three days, we have had four martyrs due to house collapses and six others have been injured.”
Local officials in Laghman have also reported that recent rainfall has destroyed 515 residential houses and 400 acres of agricultural land in the province.
Abdulmalik Niazi, spokesperson for the Governor of Laghman, reported the death of three people and injuries to 13 others in the province.
“Three people have been martyred, including two children. Thirteen others have been injured, and 515 homes and 400 Jeribs of land have also been destroyed,” he said.
Despite these damages, victims of the recent floods have called on the caretaker government and aid organizations to address their challenges.
Reedy Gul, a resident of Nangarhar, said: “Whatever help and cooperation they can provide, they should help as urgently as possible. Residents of Momenabad village do not have bread for the evening.”
This comes as the Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation warns of the possibility of snowfall, rain accompanied by thunderstorms, and floods in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Kabul, Logar, Paktia, and Khost.
