ANKARA – Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan tested positive for the Omicron variant of Covid-19, he announced it on Twitter on Saturday.
Erdogan said that he and his wife were experiencing mild symptoms of the coronavirus, adding that they will continue to work at home.
“We look forward to your prayers,” Erdogan concluded in his tweet.
Bugün hafif belirtiler üzerine eşimle birlikte yaptırdığımız COVID-19 testimizin sonucu pozitif çıktı. Omicron varyantı olduğunu öğrendiğimiz hastalığı hamdolsun hafif geçiriyoruz.
Görevimizin başındayız. Çalışmalarımıza evde devam edeceğiz. Dualarınızı bekliyoruz.

He revealed it after attending a tunnel-opening ceremony through videolink from Istanbul.
Turkey recorded 111,157 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, its highest daily case of the pandemic, while the daily death toll was highest in four months, according to data released by the country’s health ministry.
In late December, the tally of daily cases stood at about 20,000 but has surged sharply due to the Omicron variant.
The data also showed 248 people lost their lives due to Covid-19 in the same 24-hour period, the highest daily toll since Oct. 4 when 248 deaths were recorded, Reuters reports.
