CAIRO – Three sons and as many grandchildren of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh were killed by Israeli forces in an airstrikes in the war-ravaged Gaza on first day of Eidul Fitr.
The development was confirmed by Hamas and Haniyeh’s family, international media reported. The family house of the fighter group’s head was destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in November 2023.
The three sons – Hazem, Amir and Mohammad – were and three grandchildren were making family visits on the occasion of Eid when their car was targeted by the occupant forces in Gaza’s Al-Shati camp.
Haniyeh’s eldest son took to Facebook where he confirmed the death of his brothers. “Thanks to God who honoured us by the martyrdom of my brothers, Hazem, Amir and Mohammad and their children,” wrote Abdel-Salam Haniyeh.
“The blood of my sons is not dearer than the blood of our people,” Haniyeh was quoted as having said in an international media report.
Over 33,091 Palestinians, the majority of women and children, have been killed in the Gaza since the war started in October last, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
