Third day of rains: Four more die as Korangi causeway sealed

Intermittent rains were reported across the city on Saturday in the third consecutive day of showers for the city. These showers are part of the fourth monsoon spell that entered the city on Thursday and expected to end on Saturday. Light showers were reported in DHA, Clifton, Defence View, Old City areas, Burns Road, Saddar, MA Jinnah Road, Sharae Faisal, Nursery and Baloch Colony. Heavy rain was reported at 11am in Lyari. Two people were killed when a roof collapsed in Jahanabad. One person was injured. Two people were killed in a roof collapse in Pak Colony’s SITE. A man identified as Noor Muhammad went on his neighbour’s roof to repair it with a labourer identified as Raza Muhammad. As soon as they stepped on the roof, it collapsed. The house had been abandoned a year and a half because of the shaky structure. Noor went to the house because a leak in the roof was causing water to enter his home. The Malir River overflowed on the Korangi EBM Causeway. The road has been sealed. The water level in the river is still increasing. Heavy rain was reported at Jail Chowrangi at 1pm. At 1:50pm rain was reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and on II Chundrigar Road. Multiple streets and roads were flooded after the rain, leaving many people stranded. The most rain was reported at the PAF Base Faisal where 94mm was recorded. The Pakistan Army has initiated a relief operation and is draining water from streets. The ISPR has said that in case of emergency, rescue teams will also be deployed.This monsoon spell is expected to head to Balochistan on Saturday. Moreover, several parts of the metropolis have been deprived of electricity on third day of the rainfall. Many feeders and PMTs have been tripped in Karachi after a downpour caused a massive power breakdown in the city. The areas facing power outages include Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road, Khudadad Colony, SITE, Qayyumabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulistan-e-Johar, Korangi, Quaidabad, Gulbahar, Khamosh Colony, Federal B Area, North Karachi, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Saudabad, PECHS, Defence, Keamari, Lyari, Soldier Bazaar, Saddar, Malir, Landhi, Old City Area and North Nazimabad. Several areas of the city also facing voltage fluctuations and other power woes damaging electronic appliances and other equipment.
