THERE is a sudden surge in terrorist attacks in the country, proving true the fears that a conspiracy has been hatched by our enemies to fan chaos and anarchy in Pakistan. Wednesday saw two separate terrorist attacks claiming the life of twenty security personnel.
In the first incident, at least fourteen security personnel were martyred in a militant attack on a convoy of state-run Oil and Gas Development Company Limited on the Makran Coastal Highway in Ormara, Balochistan.  The security personnel lost their life when terrorists opened fire on them on the highway in Gwadar. In the second incident, six Pakistan Army personnel including an officer were martyred in a terrorist bomb attack near Ramzak area of North Waziristan.  According to the ISPR, a convoy of security forces was attacked through an improvised explosive device.  The attack in North Waziristan comes a day after one soldier was martyred after the terrorists opened fire from across the border on Pakistan Army post along Pak-Afghan border in Bajaur. As a result of anti-terrorist operations especially in the tribal districts, the past few years have been quite peaceful. There was an environment of satisfaction that we have overcome this menace. However, this is something which is not digestible to our arch enemy – India – as it cannot see Pakistan progressing on the path of peace and prosperity. This is not an allegation but the reports recently emanated from the US and the United Nations have clearly exposed Indian support and backing for terrorist groups to destabilize Pakistan. The Afghan land is still being used by TTP which enjoys the patronage of India to perpetrate terrorism in Pakistan and despite our repeated requests, the Afghan government has not moved against the terrorist group. Time has come to raise the matter forcefully and in clear terms with the Afghan government to fulfil its commitment regarding non-use of its land against the neighbouring country. It is after immense sacrifices – both human and material – that Pakistan has achieved peace and we are confident that our security forces are alert and mindful to foil the sordid designs of the enemy. Credible evidence about Indian involvement in acts of terrorism in Pakistan should be shared with the international community which also needs to see New Delhi beyond the lens of a big economic market and hold it accountable for the crimes it is committing against humanity. Giving free hand to India to perpetrate terrorism will have dangerous consequences for the peace and security of the region in particular and the world in general.
