New York – India beat the United States of America (USA) by seven wickets in a Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on Wednesday.
Chasing a 111-run target for victory, India lost Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) in the first three overs with just 15 runs on the board. Rishab Pant (18) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) steadied the ship with a 29-run partnership for the third wicket. SKY added another 67 runs with Shivam Dube (31) to help the side cross the finishing line with seven wickets and 10 balls to spare. Saurabh Netravalkar bagged two wickets and Ali Khan had one. Arshdeep Singh was named player of the match.
After being asked to bat first by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, the USA kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ended up at 110/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Nitish Kumar was the highest scorer with 27 runs followed by Steven Taylor who made 24. Corey Anderson scored 15, skipper Aaron Jones and Shadley van Schalkwyk 11 each and Harmeet Singh 10 runs. Arshdeep Singh bagged four wickets, Hardik Pandya two and Axar Patel had one while Jasdeep Singh was run out.
