One of the most common causes of gas is undigested carbohydrates that include soluble & insoluble fibre, starch and sugar. Not just these, but foods that are rich in sulfur, complex sugar -raffinose and those made with sugar alcohols can also cause gas in our body. So, we can simply say that those foods that are hard to break down are the main culprits for farting too much.
Intestinal gas is a normal part of digestion. The gas is produced by different means, including: Swallowed air – the mouth isn’t vacuum-sealed, so small quantities of air are swallowed along with food and liquid. The oxygen and nitrogen from the swallowed air is absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine, and any excess is allowed to continue its journey through the bowel for expulsion. ‘Air-swallowing’ often occurs in people who are anxious.
Normal digestion – stomach acid is neutralised by pancreatic secretions, and the resulting interaction creates gas (carbon dioxide) as a by-product.
Intestinal bacteria – the bowel contains a host of bacteria that help digestion by fermenting some of the food components. The process of fermentation produces gas as a by-product. Some of the gas is absorbed into the bloodstream and breathed out by the lungs. The remainder is pushed along the bowel.

The small intestine can’t break down certain compounds, which means extra work for the gas-producing intestinal bacteria, and accompanying flatus. High-fibre diets should be introduced slowly to allow the bowel sufficient time to adjust. If you do not want to feel the embarrassment of passing gas, then make sure not to load on foods like beans & legumes, root vegetables, any starchy foods, cruciferous vegetables, whole grains, and even broccoli. You would be surprised to know that even wine and beer are high in sulfur and thus one must completely avoid sipping them to prevent.
It is very simple, one should become more active and exercise often. But, when we talk about eating habits then we must make sure that we chew the food slowly so that there is less swallowing of air that can also cause gas in our body. Also, make sure that the beans and legumes you want to eat are soaked in advance which releases the gas-causing properties. One should also stay away from fizzy drinks, chewing gums and hard candies that cause too much air swallowing.
