As part of its corporate social responsibilities, Sui Southern Gas Company partnered with SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School by providing financial support to the latter for setting up a computer laboratory for lesser privileged students. Adopted by Zindagi Trust, a not-for-profit organization, the school is located in Garden area of Karachi, which has been providing quality education for the last 16 years to the girls belonging to the deprived families.
SSGC has provided financial assistance for procurement of 30 desktop computers, LCD monitors and furniture to set up this lab.The computer laboratory was formally inaugurated by Salman A. Siddiqui, SSGC’s Head of Corporate Communications and CSR, during a simple yet impressive ceremony organized by the school administration. Speaking on the occasion, he said that SSGC for the last several years has been partnering with non-profit organizations that are active in enhancing the quality of education by focusing more on vocational education. He hoped that this computer lab would be helpful in bringing a positive change in the lives of these girls. Dua was offered after the inauguration of computer lab.Zindagi Trust has been established by Pakistan’s eminent music artist Shahzad Roy. This trust strives to provide quality education with a belief that it is a fundamental right of every child.
The Trust works closely with schools to create models that provide inclusive education and then strive for policy changes in reforms in the schools that may lead to large-scale change. Zindagi Trust has been running 2 government schools in Karachi, SMB Fatima Jinnah Govt. Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt. Girls School for many years and has transformed both institutions into model institutions.
The trust increased the enrolment from 500 to 2,200 after adopting SMB Fatima Jinnah Govt. Girls School in 2007, whereas the enrolment was enhanced from 400 students to 870 after adopting Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt. Girls School in 2015.Speaking on the occasion, Salman Siddiqui reiterated SSGC’s commitment to support the under privileged communities.
He said that over the years SSGC has taken many initiatives under its corporate social responsibility program including education, health, environment and community welfare. However, in recent past there has been a lot of emphasis on collaboration in the field of vocational education. He appreciated the passion and dedication of the teachers and students for creating an excellent academic environment in the school. School Principal Madam Shahnaz Hunzai thanked SSGC’s management for their support and said that it would help enhance the skills of these lesser privileged but extremely talented girls. SSGC’s Corporate Communications Manager Huda Qureshi and Executive Zobia Sadiq were also present at the inauguration of the computer laboratory.
