Speakers at the Creative Arts and Media Summit and Exhibition hosted by the Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) in Collaboration with the Distinguished, Innovations, Collaboration & Entrepreneurship (DICE) Foundation USA, said that the arts and media industry in Pakistan need attention so the society could grow well.
The two-day mega event started at the Expo Center, Karachi, on Monday. Students of various universities, teachers, media persons, and film and TV actors attended the discussions on various media and arts-related topics.
Speaking in the inaugural session, Sindh Minister for Mines and Mineral Development, Public Health Engineering and Rural Development Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani said that arts played a very important role in any society. “The art has capacity to portray one’s feelings. It is not limited to paintings and sketches but it portrays the whole society,” he added.
Mr Bijarani said that the SMIU is one the oldest institutions of the region and had produced several leaders, including the father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh said that the SMIU is a national institution, saying the father of nation studied in this institution and bequeathed part of his property through his last will. He said that the SMIU kept a special place in the heart of the people of Sindh. “It is very beloved to people of Sindh.”
Dr Shaikh said that the art has potential and the universities start the debate on intellect and creative arts. “We have tried to provide a platform for such thoughts,” he added. He said that the experienced and renowned persons from academia, film and media industry have been provided a space to under one roof to discuss and debate issues the media industry has been facing in Pakistan. He said that it was a great opportunity to the students to learn from the experiences of the people already working in media industry.
Mr. Khursheed Qureshi, the founder and chairman the DICE Foundation USA, said that his organization wanted to create an environment for creative arts in Pakistan. “Pakistan has potential for creative arts,” he added.
