Sindh Information Minister SharjeelInamMemon has warned of heavy rains across the province until August 31, urging the public to cooperate with authorities to tackle any emergencies. He assured that the Sindh government is fully prepared for the monsoon season and has set up a rain emergency cell at the Chief Minister’s House. In light of the expected downpours, government officials have been designated as in-charge across 30 districts. Memon further stated that all ministers, advisors, and divisional commissioners have been instructed to remain alert and active.
Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to the risk of stormy conditions, while necessary machinery has been distributed among towns to improve drainage systems. KMC and the Water Board have also enhanced their drainage infrastructure. Local government bodies, as well as elected representatives from the People’s Party, including UC chairpersons, have been directed to ensure all precautions are in place.
“We are strengthening the embankments from Hamal Lake to Manchar Lake, with continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas,” Memon added. The government is also considering whether to keep educational institutions open or closed during this period.
