A bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has taken a strong stance on the issue of missing persons, ordering compensation for the affected families. Here are the key points from the hearing. The bench, consisting of Justice ArshadHussain and Justice Zulfiqar Ali Sangi, presided over the case. Justice ArshadHussain expressed dissatisfaction with the officials’ ignorance of court orders regarding inquiries, searches, and compensation for the families of missing persons.

The court criticized the government and police department for their lackluster performance in handling the case of 11 missing persons. Justice Zulfiqar Ali Sangi highlighted that the court had previously ordered compensation for the families, but there had been a significant delay in its implementation. He questioned the inaction of police officers and secretaries over the past three months.

The court raised concerns about a missing person whose whereabouts were reportedly traced, only for the individual to be transferred before the next hearing. This was deemed as a mockery of the court’s directives. Justice ArshadHussain lamented the lack of response from various institutions despite letters being sent to them. He expressed frustration over the uncertainty surrounding the actions of the police officers. The bench also criticized the federal and provincial government lawyers for their apparent lack of knowledge about the case. The government counsel informed the court that the provincial government is willing to compensate verified cases of missing persons. A summary has been forwarded to the Chief Minister of Sindh for further action.
