Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon assured that the administration is actively responding to the heavy rains across the province. He commended Karachi Mayor MurtazaWahab for overseeing drainage efforts throughout the night and mentioned that both the mayors of Hyderabad and Karachi, along with local MPs, are present on the ground. “As long as these conditions persist, our team will remain active,” Memon stated, adding that Chief Minister Sindh is personally visiting the rain-affected areas while the Minister of Irrigation is monitoring the situation at the embankments.
The entire government machinery, including ministers, chairmen, and councilors, is fully engaged across Karachi and other districts. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Memon emphasized that governments should be on the ground during natural disasters rather than staying idle. He highlighted that PPP leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari had issued special instructions for all officials to be present in the field.
Memon also noted that FaryalTalpur, a key PPP leader, was personally monitoring the situation and had assigned duties to MPs in all districts to ensure their presence in affected areas. Detailing the rainfall statistics, Memon revealed that the highest rainfall in Sindh was recorded in Badin district, particularly in Shaheed Fazil Rahu Tehsil, which received 190 mm of rain. Other areas, including Matli, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot, also experienced heavy rainfall, with figures ranging between 101 mm to 168 mm. Memon expressed concern over the lack of a positive response from HESCO and SEPCO in dealing with the emergency situation during the rains, despite discussions with the federal government and directives from the Chief Minister.
He explained that effective drainage depends on operational pumping machines, most of which require electricity, and the ongoing power issues have created significant challenges. Highlighting a major relief effort, Memon pointed out that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recently distributed solar panels to two lakh families, marking a historic moment in Pakistan’s history. “This isn’t just a temporary relief; it’s a long-term solution,” Memon said, adding that the Thar Coal project initiated by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, which was later revived by Asif Ali Zardari, will transform Pakistan’s energy future. He emphasized that
Tharparkar’s coal will not only provide the cheapest electricity in the country but will also change the fate of the nation, eventually leading to electricity exports. Memon also discussed the groundbreaking impact of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), noting that despite changes in government, the program continues to operate, offering lifelong relief to the people. “The PPP believes in actions, not just words,” he stated, highlighting that the Sindh government is making strides in every sector, from introducing EV and pink buses to launching the first EV taxi service. Regarding anti-drug efforts, Memon mentioned the recent crackdown on an NGO involved in drug trafficking.
He emphasized that there will be no tolerance for drug dealers and users, and that serious action is being taken, including drug tests in schools and colleges. “We are at war with drug dealers, not with individuals,” he said, stressing the commitment of Sindh Police, Pakistan Rangers, ANF, and Excise Narcotics Control to eliminate drugs from society. Addressing a question about PTI, Memon criticized the party for its governance and misconduct over the past years. He accused PTI of creating chaos through social media and noted the party’s current disarray.
Memon also raised concerns about PTI’s alleged foreign funding from India and Israel, questioning why legal action wasn’t taken sooner. When asked about the MQM, Memon clarified that they are not coalition partners with PPP and that their statements are not taken seriously. He expressed regret over the recent violent incidents in Balochistan, condemning the attacks on innocent civilians and workers. Memon supported the federal government’s pledge to take strict action against terrorists in the region, asserting that weapons are never a solution to such issues.
