International Cricket Council (ICC) has shortlisted 9 names for the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award with Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi making the cut from Pakistan.
Shadab and Shaheen have played key roles in helping Pakistan bounce back from their opening two losses to lead their side into the final of the competition on Sunday.
Shadab has held his own against the best batters and bowlers alike with his all-round performances. His best innings with the bat came against South Africa in a must-win contest where he smashed a vital fifty while he has picked 10 wickets in six matches, with best figures of 3/22 and a miserly economy of 6.59.
He also shoulders the responsibility of being Pakistan’s vice-captain.
Shaheen, meanwhile, has slowly found his rhythm since returning from an injury. He went wicketless in his first two games before taking 10 in the next four matches.
So far he has 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 14.20 with an exceptional economy of 6.17.
Pakistan will once again bank on him during their final against England at MCG.
Meanwhile, India’s Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and England’s Jos Buttler, Alex Hales and Sam Curran are the other contenders for the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award.
