Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) on Wednesday organized a ration bags distribution ceremony among 500 members of transgender community of Islamabad and Rawalpindi at a simple but graceful ceremony. Minister for Human Rights and Dr Shireen Mazari was the chief guest on the occasion.
Managing Director (MD) PBM, Aon Abbas Buppi and Transgender Rights Expert in UNDP Nayaba Ali were also present on the occasion and expressed their resolve to uplift this neglected segment of society. Highlighting the efforts to protect the rights of the transgender community, Minister for human rights, Dr Shireen Mazari said uplift of the marginalized and disadvantaged segments of society was the priority of her government. In the past, she said unfortunately, no work was done on it.
“Transgenders are being facilitated equally like other vulnerable segments of the society”, she remarked and appreciating the PBM’s proactive role for covering the vulnerable segments of society on following the principles of equality. The minister claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was trying its best to ensure that transgender persons are recognised as equal citizens of the state.
