Scott Urbom assumes position as US CG in Karachi

Scott Urbom has officially assumed his position as the Consul General in Karachi, highlighting the continued importance of U.S.-Pakistan diplomatic relations. Urbom arrives with extensive experience, having most recently served as Office Director at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he managed U.S. relations with multiple countries in the region.

His career includes roles such as Deputy Director of the Office of Korean Affairs, Deputy Political Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan, and DPRK Unit Chief in the Office of Korean Affairs. Urbom’s previous assignments span Beijing, Bridgetown, and Kyiv. Before joining the Foreign Service, Urbom contributed to global education as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan. He holds a degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and advanced degrees from Harvard University and the National War College. Urbom is accompanied by his wife Sonia, a retired U.S. diplomat and teacher, and their two daughters who are currently in college.

In his new role, Urbom marks the 77th anniversary of U.S.-Pakistan diplomatic relations and aims to fortify the bilateral relationship. He underscores the importance of enhancing economic investment, trade cooperation, and the Green Alliance framework. Urbom is committed to fostering mutual benefits for both nations and strengthening people-to-people connections between the United States and the regions of Sindh and Balochistan.
