RAWALPINDI – The Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Falih, called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to discuss ways to enhance their growing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, the Inter-Services Public Relation said on Thursday.

The meeting, which took place in Rawalpindi, involved the minister and his delegation and centered on shared interests, as reported by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Saudi delegation, led by the investment minister, arrived in Pakistan on October 9 for a three-day visit.

During the meeting, the army chief expressed his sincere gratitude for the steadfast support of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman towards Pakistan.

He said that the presence of such a significant business delegation in Pakistan highlighted the strong and enduring ties between the two nations.

General Munir also emphasized the deep respect the Pakistani people have for Saudi Arabia and assured the delegation of Pakistan’s full support, expressing optimism about the beneficial outcomes for both countries.

In a separate engagement, the minister and his delegation met with President Asif Ali Zardari at the President House in Islamabad on Thursday. During this meeting, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas, including the economy, agriculture, mining, and information technology.

The two sides highlighted the importance of working together to build a prosperous and peaceful future for the region and the broader Islamic community, as stated in a press release from the President House.

President Zardari welcomed the delegation, highlighting the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He expressed a desire to enhance bilateral ties into a long-term strategic and economic partnership, noting that such collaboration would draw the two nations even closer.

The president reiterated Pakistan’s deep respect for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and emphasized the nation’s unwavering commitment to stand in solidarity with Saudi Arabia. He also praised the forward-thinking leadership of the Crown Prince and commended Saudi Arabia’s progress under Vision 2030, expressing gratitude for the Kingdom’s support during challenging times.

Minister Khalid acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic geographical significance and its potential for natural resources and renewable energy.

He announced plans for Saudi investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and mining sectors, with intentions to sign 25 agreements to enhance economic cooperation.

Both sides underscored the importance of increased collaboration in agriculture and information technology.

Several key officials including the Minister for Petroleum, Minister for Commerce, Minister for Privatisation, Minister for Interior, Minister for Religious Affairs and other dignitaries along with the Saudi Ambassador attended the meeting in Islamabad.
