The post-mortem report of 7-year-old Sarim, whose body was found in a water tank after 11 days of being missing, has been released. According to a police surgeon, the report indicates multiple injury marks on Sarim’s body.
However, the exact cause of death will only be determined after the results of a chemical examination. Sarim’s body was discovered earlier today in an underground water tank near his home in North Karachi. Authorities had conducted an extensive search following his disappearance on January 7, when his family reported him missing after he failed to return from madrasa.
The search operation involved checking all 212 flats in the apartment complex and searching the building’s water tanks. The police have been hindered by a power outage that caused the CCTV cameras to be non-operational at the time of the incident, limiting the available evidence. The authorities are attempting to obtain footage from surrounding areas. Sarim’s father had received suspicious calls and messages during the search period, some demanding money, and one even requesting a picture of the child.
After sending a picture, the number was switched off. A ransom note demanding Rs 5 lac was later sent to the father. The case was subsequently transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).
Earlier, Sarim’s mother, made a heartfelt plea for the return of her son, stating, “Whoever has taken my son, please return him.” She mentioned that both of her sons had gone to madrasa together, but only the elder one returned. The police are now investigating whether Sarim’s fall into the water tank was an accident or whether he was pushed. Authorities are continuing their efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding his death.
