The death toll from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 has surpassed 41,000, which is a staggering number. Since then, many celebrities have lent support to the victims of the disaster. And joining the list is Turkish chef Nusret Gokce, widely known as Salt Bae, who is keeping true to his vow of feeding at least 5,000 survivors daily.
The priority right now is aiding the survivors, and it will be challenging for health officials to prevent illnesses because many of the sanitation facilities in the region were destroyed or rendered useless by the earthquakes.
Although acknowledging issues with the initial response to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that occurred early on February 6, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan now claims that the situation is “in control,” according to reports.
Erdogan stated during a televised speech in Ankara that “we are experiencing one of the greatest natural calamities not just in our nation but also in the history of humanity.”
