Heatwave grips Karachi: Over 1,500 hospitalised, 20 deadStaffReporterThe ongoing heatwave in Karachi has led to the admission of 1,592 individuals to Jinnah Hospital in the past 24 hours, with 20 fatalities reported during treatment and 29 brought in dead, according to Dr. Nosheen, the emergency ward in-charge.

The extreme heat conditions, exacerbated by the absence of sea breeze, have persisted in Karachi, with the MET office forecasting continued hot weather until Thursday. Authorities have cautioned residents to minimize outdoor activities between 10 AM and 4 PM to avoid heat-related health risks. On Monday, marked Karachi’s hottest day of the year, with temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celsius citywide.

Gulistan-e-Johar recorded the highest temperature at 43.7 degrees Celsius, followed by the airport area at 42.8 degrees Celsius, and Shahrah-e-Faisal at 40.5 degrees Celsius. Maripur also experienced intense heat, with temperatures reaching 40.2 degrees Celsius. The average temperature across Karachi stood at 42.6 degrees Celsius, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave gripping the city.
