Role of music in creativity and innovations
THE state of mind which is acquired by music can open and broaden the minds for more ideas and thoughts, which results in more creativity.
Music helps us to be more creative. It provokes ideas in our mind from random memory saved in our subconscious mind in the form of knowledge of various fields.
When music triggers our divergent thinking, our mind goes on mode of accumulation of all ideas related to that memory which has been triggered by music or during the playing of musical instruments by an artiste, writer, poet or thinkers.
If we take notice of those triggered ideas in our mind and we start to write them, then our mind goes to the convergent mode of thinking, where we can keep on going organizing these random thoughts and ideas into an organized manner.
This type of thinking of organizing the ideas after their provocation in our mind is called a convergent way of thinking so our mind is usually provoked by music for its divergent as well as convergent thinking.
According to musicologists, music is a source of creativity and a tool for divergent and convergent thinking.
Even today’s world needs more creative minds trained for divergent and convergent thinking in various fields of life from business, social, management and leadership sectors as well as in creative industries; so music has a great role in making modern world leaders in science, business, arts, politics, research, innovations and creativity.
According to world expert musicologists, “music has played a great role in managing the emotions, mood, anger and keeping the minds on track of creative thinking.” It means those who listen to music come up with more creative and innovative ideas.
Only happy kind of music has such an impact on the minds. Generally, other types of music do not have such an impact on the minds. Music can switch your mind between different concepts and perspectives.
The magical impact of music on your mind make your mind think logically instead of seeing problems with a rigid point of view. Research shows that listening to and playing music has promoted creative thinking in various scientific educational and organizational settings.
Learning and playing music will make your mind more creative, functional and in optimum state. According to research, people, who play guitar and other musical instruments, have boosted ideation and creativity.
In our routine life, noise, and other voices around us are mostly disturbing and distracting us from focus but music, due to its rhythmic and melodious sounds, increases our focus and creativity.
This state of mind which is acquired by music opens and broadens the minds for more ideas and thoughts, so causes more creativity. Music serves as a more convenient, less costly and reliable way to make you creative and innovative.
It is a tool of great healing of sad and panic mind. Jenny Cornisa in his published paper in “Education Spring” says that the importance of music in creation of science and art is often overlooked by our societies.
The value of music in child education is crucial to consider because children in schools feel pressure to achieve outstanding results in exams.
In that situation music listening can help their minds to relax and feel pleasure so they feel relaxed and come out of the stress entangled thoughts and become clearer in thinking. Music is not only helpful in many ways in learning, but it can improve the performance in other subjects.
According to Aristotle, “even though the roots of education are bitter, but its fruits are sweet.” Even you can enjoy the fruits of your learning while listening to music and you can feel in yourself the pleasures of its fruits before the ripening stage of its fruits.
The wellbeing and social aspect of music has its own values, when you play and enjoy music together you learn a lot. Music helps connect different minds in making thoughts associations between different minds.
The value of music and art in child education is often ignored and overlooked by our societies. Anyone who will be involved in the arts will be amazed by the result and impact on the mind and well-being.
It is a common saying that to be a scientist you need to be a creative mind and to become an artist you need to be disciplined and accurate.
According to music and arts experts, music and art are very important for learning the life skills. Societies which deprive their citizens of art and music, which is a fuel of creativity, suffer a lot.
It would be short sightedness if we do not allow our youngsters to develop their future through music and arts. Experts believe that in changing the world with technology and innovations, only those individuals who would adapt art and music to boost their creativity in their careers will succeed. Due to art and music in these cultures’ innovation and inventions and breakthroughs in science, new industries are emerging creating global market for sale of their products like books, films, music, art, design, fashion, etc and other industrial products.
It means if you will ignore the tools and means of creativity like creative industries in your societies and countries, you will ignore a great part of global economics which will grow exponentially in societies by incorporating creative industries in their countries and allocating annual budgets and investments for their countries.
Similarly, annual revenue from sports which is a part of great art and entertainment industry could help developing countries to accumulate their revenue by promoting different international sports in their states.
Healing and well-being effect of music on human brain and body: A graduate of honours, “Dawn Kent” wrote and published a paper about music saying that “it has a great impact on healing and wellbeing of people and nations.”
Music has been used in different cultures to ease stress and pain from suffering bodies. Many hospitals around the world are using music as a therapy for pain and anxiety treatment in patients.
It is also used in many patients with disorders and depressions. It is used as nonverbal medium for communications among people. Brain needs music in a different way from other tunes of voices. — To be continued.
