ISLAMABAD – In another relief for incarcerated leader Imran Khan, the Islamabad High Court issued a stay order on cipher case trial against the PTI founder till January 11.
The verdict was issued as IHC conducted a hearing plea against the indictment of jailed PTI leader and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a cipher case.
Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb of the IHC issued the order for today’s hearing.
As former ruling party moved court, the court granted a request for a quick stay order on cipher trial and then stopped the proceedings of the case till January 11.
The court further issued a notice to the federal interim government and directed that all documents should be submitted at the next hearing.
Let it be known that PTI founder Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were indicted in a cipher case on December 12. The proceedings in the cipher case against the two were held in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, under the Official Secrets Act.
Both politicians have denied the allegations of misusing the classified diplomatic cable for their personal interests.
Supreme Court heard the petition filed by them on October 23 against their indictment. At the outset of the hearing, Justice Masood remarked that the IHC had already invalidated the indictment on November 21.
He said that the fresh indictment will not be affected by the previous proceedings that were declared null and void by the high court.
