LAHORE – Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha has opened a new Pandora box as he made shocking claims about elections rigging in Rawalpindi Division.

Following Chatha’s shocking revelations, PML-N Punjab leader Rana Sanaullah Khan said Rawalpindi Commissioner has been suffering from mental health issues for some time.

Speaking with a local TV channel, Sanaullah said there was some treatment underway for his mental health issues.

PML-N leader was of view that punishment for rigging the electoral process does not amount to death sentence as stated by Mr Chatha.

‘Elections were rigged’

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatta resigned from his post in protest against irregularities in recently held general elections 2024. The officer announced his resignation in a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium while admitting that rigging took place in elections in Rawalpindi division.
Taking responsibility of the irregularities, he said the losers were converted into winners by a big margin. He also surrendered himself before the police for his involvement in the illegal activity.
He said: “I was unable to sleep due to what I have done in elections”. He said chief election commissioner, chief justice and others are involved in the massive election rigging.

ECP trashes Chatha’s allegations

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) turned down the allegations made by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division.

ECP said no official of election commission ever issued any instructions regarding manipulating election results to the Commissioner Rawalpindi, neither the commissioner of any division ever appointed as a DRO, RO or presiding officer, nor do they ever play a direct role in the conduct of elections.
