The Punjab government announced a special package for the holy month of Ramadan for those who are registered with the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), said the sources close to the development.
“The deliberations are underway to start the package,” said the sources. The Ramadan Hampers filled with the essential items, they said, would be bought from the local wholesale markets.
“Around 65,000 to 70,000 families are expected to benefit from an exclusive Eid special package,” said the sources, adding that the Eid gift hamper, valued at Rs 3,630 would be distributed among eligible recipients free of charge.
The Eid hamper would comprise 10 kg of flour, 2 kg of sugar and 2 kg of basin, catering to the essential needs of households.
Besides it, the package encompassed 2 kg of rice and 2 kg of ghee to supplement the recipients’ dietary requirements.
The delivery logistics were organized to ensure the seamless distribution of the Eid packages to homes, with a nominal cost of Rs. 435 per bag.
The prices for individual food items were also fixed, with flour priced at Rs135, sugar at Rs140, basin at Rs230, ghee at Rs460, rice at Rs280 per kilogram, and plastic bags at Rs60 each.
An initial allocation of Rs. 9 billion was earmarked to facilitate the distribution of ration packages to deserving individuals as part of this comprehensive support program.
