LAHORE – As Punjab gears up for the upcoming elections, the province is grappling with a significant scarcity of security personnel, the sources privy to the development revealed on Wednesday.

The sources said that the security threats were identified for 19 prominent politicians in the region.

In a crucial meeting addressing the impending general elections scheduled for February 8, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab shed light on the insufficient presence of police officers in the province.

The IGP Punjab revealed that security threats have been identified for 19 politicians in the region. However, due to security considerations, the IGP refrained from disclosing the names of the politicians facing potential risks.

Punjab is currently contending with a deficit of 92,000 security personnel, attributing to various security concerns.

The Punjab police chief asserted that Punjab claimed to maintain conducive peace and order conditions. To ensure the safety of the electoral process, a staggering 120,000 security personnel are actively engaged in election-related duties across the province.
