Public role vital to combat environmental pollution: minister

Punjab Minister for Environmental Protection Muhammad Rizwan has underscored that public cooperation is essential to control environmental pollution as no government can overcome all problems alone.

“All stakeholders including civil society has to play its proactive role to deal with all challenges, especially the environmental pollution.”

Punjab Minister for Environmental Protection Muhammad Rizwan was chairing an important meeting held to review media strategy for improving communication and trust between the citizen and the government.

Additional Secretary EPD Shahida Farrukh Naveed, DG Nawaz Manik, Director Nusrat Naaz, focal person of SMU Dr Shazia and other relevant officials were present on the occasion.

During the briefing, the Provincial Minister was informed that as per the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister and as per the plan of SMU, all arrangements are being made by the Environment Department for holding awareness week from September 20, including awareness messages on highways or roads, different awareness sessions especially with youth in various educational institutions, steamers and pamphlets to spread awareness among the people, videos messages, filed visit to inspect environmental SOPs, documentaries etc will also be part of the awareness campaign.

The Provincial Minister directed to concerned officials to make all arrangements to make the campaign a success and ensure the visit of those zones where the number of industries located to implement rules of EPA in true spirit.

He further directed no negligence would be tolerated as controlling environmental pollution is a service to humanity.
