ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has secured permission from Islamabad’s administration to hold a rally on Septemeber 8 in the capital city Islamabad.
The development comes after the chief commissioner of Islamabad previously blocked a planned PTI rally on August 22, citing security concerns and inadequate resources. The power show was originally scheduled for July but it was postponed.
Khan’s party received approval from the district magistrate to proceed with rally on September 8. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is hopeful that this approval will remain valid, unlike previous occasions.
PTI faced massive challenges in organizing rallies since Khan’s arrest over a year ago. Although several of his convictions have been overturned by higher courts, the former prime minister remains imprisoned due to new charges.
The former ruling party is facing a massive crackdown after supporters damaged government and military property on May 9, 2023, after Khan’s brief arrest in a graft case.
After May 9 incident, several PTI members were detained, and at least 103 individuals are facing trials in military courts.
