KARACHI – Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 79-run in the 30th Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at National Cricket Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday.
Chasing a challenging 186-run for victory, Gladiators kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were all out at 106 in 15.5 overs. Omair Yousaf was the highest scorer with 37 runs followed by Khawaja Nafay who made 16 runs. Saud Shakeel scored 14 runs, Mohammad Wasim Junior 13 and skipper Rilee Rossouw made 10 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures. David Willey and Usama Mir bagged three wickets each, Abbas Afridi two and Mohammad Ali one while Saud Shakeel was run out. Mohammad Rizwan was named player of the match.
After being asked to bat first, Sultans lost Yasir Khan (12) early with just 16 runs on the board. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan (69) and Usman Khan (21) steadied the ship with a 52-run second-wicket partnership. Johnson Charles (53) and Mohammad Rizwan put on 68 runs together to pave the way for a strong finish. Cameo of Iftikhar Ahmed (20) helped the Sultans reach 185/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Amir bagged two wickets while Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Junior took one wicket each.
