PSL 2024, Match 23: Lahore Qalandars beat Islamabad United by 17 runs

RAWALPINDI – Lahore Qalandars beat Islamabad United by 17 runs in the 23rd Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Wednesday evening.

Chasing 163 runs target for victory, United lost half of the side during the powerplay with just 36 runs on the board. Regular fall of wickets kept United behind the required run rate. Cameos of Azam Khan and Naseem Shah provided some hope to the United. Faheem Ashraf brought the side close to the victory target but he kept losing partners and United were all out on 145 in 18.5 overs. Faheem Ashraf was the top scorer with 41 runs followed by Azam Khan who made 29. Naseem Shah scored 27 and Colin Munro 15 runs. Zaman Khan bagged four wickets, Shaheen Shah Afridi two, David Wiese, Jahandad Khan and Ahsan Hafeez took one wicket each while Colin Munro was run out. Rassie van der Dussen was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first by United skipper Shadab Khan, Qalandars lost key wickets of Sahibzada Farhan (2), Fakhar Zaman (10) and Shai Hope (6) with only 30 runs on the board inside seven overs. Rassie van der Dussen (64) and skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi (30) put on 46 runs partnership to put Qalandars back on track. Cameos of David Wiese (24) and Ahsan Hafeez (13) helped Qalandars reach 162/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Rumman Raees bagged two wickets while Naseem Shah, Hunain Shah, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf took one wicket each.
